The AFL Outer East is pleased to announce Allan Grant as the new Director of Umpiring for season 2019, after the position recently re-opened, due to the unforeseen resignation of former Umpiring Director Matt Kent.
Allan has a rich and illustrious history in the field of umpiring, with his own umpiring career something to be admired. Grant is a former AFL Boundary and Goal Umpire, having officiated in the AFL Grand Final as a goal umpire on two occasions, one of which was the 1990 affair between Essendon and Collingwood.
Allan has extensive coaching experience in Country Football and was recently the Director of Umpiring at Colac and District and Portland Umpires. He has also held senior coaching roles at AFL Barwon, Western Districts and the V-Line Umpiring Academies for over 20 years.
Speaking about the Outer East’s new Director of Umpiring, Region General Manager Aaron Bailey said the following;
“ It is fantastic to get someone of Allan’s experience to fill our Director of Umpiring role. Allan is highly respected across the umpiring fraternity in Victoria and he brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. Allan comes to us with high recommendations from both AFL Barwon and Western Districts.”
Allan will begin in his new role as of the 22nd of January 2019 on a permanent part-time basis.
